Delhi has changed. The family hasn't — not where it counts.
There was no internet, no cell phone, no online ordering. In the lanes of old Central Delhi — amongst the broad roads and large government houses — Lala Nathu Ram's small shop selling sweets and namkeen quickly became a household name with Delhi-ites.
Nearly nine decades later, Nathu's stands proud as part of the history of Delhi: always handmade, always vegetarian, always fresh. Meethasa is the newest chapter of that story — written by its women.
Come, taste a bit of history
Lala Nathu Ram, newly arrived from a village in Haryana, opens a small sweets-and-namkeen shop in Bengali Market — tuned perfectly to the tastes of Delhiites.
Word travels the old lanes of Central Delhi. New outlets open, and the sweet shop grows into a beloved institution serving fresh, hot vegetarian meals alongside mithai.
The family plants its flag at 2, Sunder Nagar Market — steps from Purana Qila — where four generations of the Gupta family carry the craft forward.
Navita and Shruti Gupta — mother and daughter — reimagine the family's heritage as a house of luxury gifting: silver heirlooms, bespoke trousseau, hand-painted keepsakes and hampers with soul.
Meethasa is proudly women-owned — a mother-daughter venture from the family behind Nathu's Sweets. Navita brings four decades of the house's instinct for hospitality; Shruti brings a designer's eye for detail and a curator's obsession with getting every ribbon right.
In India, gifting has never just been about the object. It is the pause before the giving, the folding of the potli, the choice of colour that reminds you of someone's laugh.
A gift is not measured in price, but in the feeling it leaves behind. That is why, at Meethasa, we believe gifting is an art — something composed, something intimate, something that speaks straight to the heart.
